GA Legacy

The Graham Academy Legacy Campaign

Like you, we are immensely saddened by the passing of Dr. Gary Graham on June 24, 2019.  Gary was a cherished teacher, mentor, choral conductor, church organist, pianist, community volunteer, and friend.  To support the continuation of Gary’s legacy, Gros Morne Summer Music, with the endorsement and guidance of Gary, established the Graham Academy in 2016. The Academy aims to provide children with the opportunity to have their lives enriched through musical experiences and uphold Gary’s wish that no child ever be left behind. We want to ensure the Academy can continue to do his fine work long into the future. To that end, Gros Morne Summer Music is undertaking a one-time only fundraising campaign from August to December 2019.

September 26, 2019

Dear Friends of Gary:

Like you, we are immensely saddened by the passing of Dr. Gary Graham on June 24, 2019. However, at the same time, during this time of sorrow, we are uplifted as we reflect on the musical excellence he brought to Corner Brook and beyond for more than 50 years.

We are writing to ask you to assist in supporting his legacy by donating to a special, one-time only fundraising campaign.

Gary was a cherished teacher, mentor, choral conductor, church organist, pianist, community volunteer, and friend. Through music, he brought the world to Corner Brook and brought Corner Brook to the world. Despite his many accolades and the exceptional success of his students and choirs, both nationally and internationally, he remained a humble leader dedicated to our community. Beyond the piano bench, Gary possessed many other special gifts, including an innate ability to foster confidence in children, preparing them for future endeavours; a generosity of time and spirit, seeking out and selflessly providing opportunities to students who would otherwise do without; and a heightened sense of compassion, demonstrated through the companionship he regularly provided to long-term care residents. His influence transcends the musical world and continues to positively shape a diverse range of people and professions, both locally and across the globe. He leaves a legacy that will live forever through the lives he touched.

As you are able, we respectfully ask you to consider contributing to this campaign. A donation of any amount will meaningfully contribute to the programs, operations, and activities of the Academy and, in turn, the continuation of Gary’s legacy of excellence. Donations to this campaign will be publicly recognized with the placing of donors’ names in a prominent place at the Convent, the home of the Graham Academy. This fund will help us with expenses related to, for example, faculty costs, facility and property upkeep and maintenance, and meeting capital debt obligations as we aim to keep registration costs, some of which are noted below, reasonable.

$120 Two private classes in any performance area
$250 One year of beginner chorale training and performances with the Mini Chorale
$350 48 Hour Musical Theatre Challenge, a high intensity, fun-filled weekend ending with a public performance of a musical
$650 One year of beginner musical theatre training and performances for children ranging in age from 4 to 8
$1,500 One year of professional musical theatre training and performances for children ranging in age from 9 to 18
