Mr. Eckert’s fondness of drama is apparent as he transports listeners chronologically through the grandiose classical and passionate Russian romantics, to the contemporary sound of twentieth-century repertoire.
Stephen Eckert is a young pianist currently completing his third year of his Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance and Composition at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Mr. Eckert began piano lessons at the age of five and has developed a passion for performing and teaching. Mr. Eckert has his sights set on earning his DMA, after which he plans to perform and teach in Canada. Mr. Eckert has been awarded the Procunier Family Scholarship and the Dorothy and David Peters Scholarship for his performance ability and academic achievements. Mr. Eckert is both delighted and honored to be performing a recital close to home in the Gros Morne Summer Festival this year. Born in Stephenville, Mr. Eckert has a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the West Coast of Newfoundland and is excited to share the music he loves in a place he loves.
